Recent work in Salem
A Salem attic, step by step
Mold had taken hold in the attic insulation. Wet, moldy insulation keeps holding moisture, so the affected insulation came out and the wood underneath was treated, with the cause addressed so it doesn’t come back.

Salem homeowner notes
What’s happening in Salem, and what it means for your home
Updated October 2026 · Source: Town of Salem
New water & sewer rates
The Town of Salem raised water and sewer rates on January 1, 2026. If your usage suddenly jumps, it can be a sign of a hidden leak, like a running toilet or a dripping supply line behind a wall, worth checking before it becomes water damage.
Sump pits & basement corners
Mold often starts on the wood framing around a sump pit or in damp basement corners. Test your sump before heavy rain, and look for dark spots or a musty smell nearby.
Rebuilding after water damage?
Once cleanup is done, check with the Town of Salem about permits before putting walls and floors back, so the work is documented if you ever sell.

Salem questions
How fast can you get to Salem?
Salem borders Windham, so it’s one of our quickest drives. Usually same day, and call or text anytime for water emergencies.
Mold showed up in a Salem home inspection. Is the sale in trouble?
Usually not. Jeremy gives a calm written scope both sides can read, schedules the work before closing, sellers can pay at closing, and the 3-year warranty transfers to the buyer.
Does moldy attic insulation have to come out?
Often, yes. Insulation that’s been wet or moldy holds moisture and odor, so Jeremy removes what’s affected, treats the wood underneath, and fixes the ventilation problem that caused it.
There’s mold around my sump pit. Is that a big deal?
It’s common and fixable. Jeremy checks how far the moisture has spread, cleans and treats the framing around the pit, and helps you keep that area dry going forward.

Salem septic & wells
On septic or a private well in Salem?
If your Salem home has a septic system or a private well, the town's Health Division, part of the Fire Department, covers both. Its guidance is worth a look before a problem starts.
Septic care
The Health Division publishes septic system maintenance guidance, pumping FAQs and the rules for replacing a system. A failing or overloaded system can back up into the lowest drains in the house.
Wells and wet basements
Salem's Health Division also has a Private Wells page with the town's septic and well requirements. If a well pump, pressure tank or supply line leaks in the basement, the water can soak into finished walls and floors.
If water or sewage gets in
Text Jeremy a photo. He'll tell you honestly what it needs, dry it properly and document it for insurance. Sewage cleanup →
